Summer is the time to finally learn to play your guitar!

The LCCM's Summer Beginner Guitar Course is the perfect way to get your guitar playing started on the right foot. 

The goal of this beginner guitar course is to provide you with the fundamental skills needed to learn, prepare, and perform simple songs on your guitar. We will focus on developing specific areas on the guitar including basic chording, rhythm, strumming, reading charts, and preparing a song for performance.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

• Identify the Main Parts of Your Guitar
• Identify the Strings, Frets, and Fingers used to play the guitar.
• Use a Guitar Pick
• Read Chord Diagrams
• Play Twelve (12) Guitar Chords
• Count the time/rhythm of music
• Play Four (4) Strumming Patterns
• Play Chord Progressions
• Use a Capo to change keys
• Read a Lyric Chart
• Prepare and perform a simple piece of music on your guitar
• Understand how to handle performance anxiety

Required Background

None - This course is intended for those with little to no background in music or on the guitar.

Required Materials
To successfully complete this course, you will need

• Guitar - electric or acoustic
• Guitar Pick
• Binder
• Notebook
• Capo (optional, but strongly recommended)

Time Requirements

To successfully complete this course, the following amount of time will be required: 

• Class Time: Six (6), One (1) hour in-class lessons, held once per week. 
• Practice Time: Fifteen (15) minutes, Five (5) times per week at home.
