Beginner Songwriting Course

Learn to write and perform your own songs—no theory required.

Have you ever wanted to write your own song but didn’t know where to start? This 8-week course is the perfect introduction to songwriting for guitar players. Whether you're writing for yourself, friends, or future performances, you'll learn how to combine lyrics, chords, melodies, and rhythms into songs that are uniquely yours—all in a supportive group setting.

What You’ll Learn:

• How to build chord progressions that sound great
• Strumming/Rhythm patterns to support different song feels
• Tools for writing lyrics (rhyme, phrasing, story ideas)
• How to create simple, singable melodies
• How to connect lyrics, melody, and chords together
• How to finish and perform your own song with confidence
  

Required Background:

• At least 6 months of playing experience on Guitar, Bass, or Piano
  • Guitar - Able to play open chords and strum simple patterns
  • Piano - Able to play simple chords and rhythms
  • Bass - Able to play simple grooves and identify note names
• Singing is optional (encouraged but not required)
• No music theory background needed—just curiosity and creativity!

Required Materials:
To successfully complete this course, you will need:

• Instrument (if portable; guitar, bass)
• Binder
• Notebook

Time Requirements:

To successfully complete this course, the following amount of time will be required: 

• Class Time: Eight (8), One (1) hour in-class lessons, held once per week. 
• Practice Time: 20-30 minutes, Five (5) times per week at home.

• Start Date: Saturday, July 12th, 2025
• End Date: Saturday, August 20th, 2025
• Day of the Week: Saturdays
• Class Time: 2:00p - 3:00p
• Printed course booklet with chord banks, lyric tools, melody tips, and song-building templates
• Collaborative and individual writing activities
• No pressure to share or perform—only if you want to!

The total price for this beginner course is $230 per student (all inclusive).

Discounts are available for students that wish to take private, one-on-one lessons with the LCCM in addition to the Beginner Songwriting Course.
